--------- Story of a Siege ----------------------------------------------------

My lord after returning from our expedition into the indus valley I have been awaiting your summons so that I may explain the events which occured out in the barbarian lands.

Here follows the account of Datis, loyal soldier to the great king and commander of the contingent based in the indus valley.

I had been ordered to bring the rebel and follower of the lie, Ajashatru to justice by the great king Darius. So I marched the army east in search of the rebel king and we soon found him holed up in a small border town.

I ordered the men to fire on the city until our men could bring up the ladders.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821856" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=821856</a>

Soon enough our men were at the walls, The Anusyia were sent to establish an opening on the enemy walls. [url="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821883"]

The Anusyia fought with all the courage a persian is expected to show... But my lord they were outnumbered and the unit suffered heavy losses.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821893" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=821893</a>

I sent in an experienced unit of our Achaemenid swordsman to relieve the Anusyia but it was too late, the brave persians had fought to the last man without a glint of fear in their eyes.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821911" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=821911</a>

There was only one option left, My swordsman had arrived too late and were in turn cut down by the barbarians on the walls. Therefore i ordered a unit of Takabara to dig beneath the walls and bring them down

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821917" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=821917</a>

I ordered the army into standard assault positions, the swordsman ready to cut a path into the enemy, just as the walls came down. I was confident the Indians would not fight so proudly without their tall walls to hide behind!

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821934" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=821934</a>

We charged into the city, I too fought, as expected, alongside my men for victory. A gritty and dusty melee ensued with the first men we met behind the walls

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821946" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=821946</a>

We pushed them back quickly and at first it seemed victory was ours for the taking....(sighs)....But it was not to be my King, Ahriman was strong with the enemy and in a land so far away, the light of Ahuramazda was dim on our hearts...
Yes great king I understand Persians should not make excuses. We fought like lions but then... the beasts... appeared from the smoke and our hearts were shaken.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821970" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=821970</a>

We held our ground for as long as we could, but the monstrosities broke our lines and caused havoc among our men.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821974" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821974</a>

It was then that the light of the wise lord fell upon the head of Mardonius, Yes great king the son of Gobyras and loyal companion of your son Xerxes. With a lions strength and the ferocity of a bull, Mardonius struck a fatal blow to one of the immense creatures the Maghda people bring to war. A great cheer went up from the persians and a hero was born in that moment.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821986" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=821986</a>

But after our minor victory Ajashatru pushed hard for a counter attack and his army pushed right through our lines, spearheaded by those terrible beasts we could not hold them back.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=821999" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=821999</a>

The army was pushed right out of the city and our foothold was lost, I was saved by the already heroic Mardonius, who pulled me away from the charge when I attempted to die for my king's glory

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=822008" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=822008</a>

In the confusion of the charge I ordered the Armtaka, my most faithful bodyguard, to cover the retreat of the rest of the army. But the worst was yet to befall us. The Armtaka had become seperated from the rest of the army and surrounded

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=822022" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=822022</a>

Desperately I ordered the army to turn back from escape and charge to the rescue of our most valued Armtaka. The persians instantly obeyed, ready to charge back into hell for their brothers. But Ajashatru sent his vile monsters to stall us and our men were devastated again, not by casualties but by the frustration of not being able to save their brothers from slaughter

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=822031" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=822031</a>

At this point I took my regiment of Anusyia and lured the foul creatures away from our Takabara. Our men moved like the wind despite their fatigue, but it was too late again for our brave soldiers. The last Armtaka had died fighting under the shelter of those giants carcasses

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=822057" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=822057</a>

Our men knew that there was no hope but they were so enraged at their loss they thre themselves into hopeless combat. They died for you Great king and for the memory of our brother Armtaka

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=822069" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=822069</a>

Yes great king, I did not join our soldiers in their glorious charge, I still had one regiment of Anusyia and Mardonius to deliver back to you. Not to mention the report i have given you. I have come for your justice sire and I am ready to face whatever punishment I must to atone for my failure.

"You have dissapointed only in results Datis, I cannot think of a Persian alive who yet knows how to defeat those monsters the Maghda breed. You fought as a Persian and did not flee in panic but retreated for the good of the empire, besides I have need of you in Greece. You have escaped judgment this time Datis but failure in the Persian army is rare and will go punished if it is repeated"

"Bring me Mardonius, I will instruct him the arts of strategy and command, He will accompany me on my visit to Ajashatru's burning court..."

--------- Marathon ----------------------------------------------------

"His Excellency, General Datis! Returning in glory from the punitive expedition against the treacherous Greeks."

"Please, don't… I, I … I can't have this in front of the great King!"

"Ah yes, Great King, light of the Aryans, King of twenty five coun…"

"I know how many people I rule Datis, what I do not know is where my expeditionary force has gone! Vanished into thin air it seems! Every courtier tells me of your success in Greece, even my captains tell me you accomplished every mission assigned you. So where is MY regiment?!"

"Of course you are curious lord I would…"

"CURIOUS?! I was curious when King Idomantheus sent me 5 arrows, a bird, a mouse and a frog. Unfortunately for you Datis I am far more than curious. There better be a worthy explanation for this, or by Ahuramazda you will live the rest of your days as an ambassador in Athens!"

"NO please my lord, Give me death not barbarians! We fought like lions for you sire! We would never betray you not for all the barbarian lands in Europe."

"Unless I am satisfied you will spend your days holding your nose around the unwashed Greeks and watching their naked youths grope each other for the amusement of the elders. You will listen to their insults and be degraded by fools and peasants until you die. So please, by all means plead for your life"

" My lord I would never be shamed in such a way, despite my recent failings I am still a Persian and Ahuramazda preserved me again to tell you this tale, a tale you must hear and avenge my lord…"

"I must?"

"If the great King so wishes of course!"

"As ordered by you sire, I took a contingent of Anusyia and archers along with a detachment of our fleet along the coast of Greece. The same route Mardonius took before he was turned back by storms. However before embarking on the voyage I was instructed to leave behind four regiments of Anusyia and replace them with non-Persian troops. It seems I am still not trusted since my battles in India… I took these fools from Syria along with us very reluctantly as Persians are the only trustworthy troops in the east." (Scowling at a Babylonian Eunuch)

"Our first objective was the island of Naxos, we stormed the city on the wings of justice and brought them to their knees, after this easy conquest Euboa and Etruria were next. They were duly punished for their role in the Ionian revolt."

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835448" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835448</a>

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835450" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835450</a>

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835452" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835452</a>

"All that was left was to punish Athens and return Hippias to his tyranny. We were buoyed up by our success, but we were also strained by losses and the poor warriors of Syria had lost a position on the walls of Etruria that cost us the lives of many Persians… But I cannot make more excuses, the blame was mine for trusting them. We sailed to a bay the Greeks call Marathon, a marshy vile place - like most of Greece. The stench of salt was in the air as a dense fog descended on us. The morning sun could only barely seen, and it was both in spirit and in reality that the light of Ahuramazda was failing with us.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835454" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835454</a>

The fog soon turned to a dust cloud as we realised the Athenians had come to meet us in the field, hastily I gave some words of encouragement to the Syrians, the Persians were eager as always to serve you my lord no speech was needed to strengthen their hearts.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835456" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835456</a>

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835460" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835460</a>

Before a full battle plan could be ordered they were on us and I ordered a hail of arrows on the Athenians

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835462" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835462</a>

But our arrows were useless! They were too well armoured and the speed of their charge meant they had escaped a prolonged missile barrage.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835466" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835466</a>

Then it was up to the spear and the shield to decide the battle, all that can be said is that the Persians fought like Kings, but the Syrians… well, they didn't fight like Persians.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835473" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835473</a>

Whilst our men roared with skill and bravery, the Athenians seemed to have the strength of iron in their arms. Our shields were splintered and broken by their longer spears, we barely had armour to stop their blows.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835488" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835488</a>

We were being destroyed, but we held fast and killed many of their troops. However it was now that the Syrians proved their worth… They fled like dogs from the master's whip.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835493" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835493</a>

Before we knew it we were being surrounded… I can still see the havoc the hoplites caused behind our lines…

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835495" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835495</a>

The Persians gave battle until their hearts gave out…. I seem to be cursed with the loss of my brothers in battle. But this is the second time I have had my men fight to the death for honour and glory my lord. Do not let my failure soil their names and reputations, their families should be proud.

<a href="http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_War/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=835505" target="_blank">http://s11.invisionfree.com/Persia_Total_W...=post&id=835505</a>

It was plain by this time the only course of action was off this field. I took the remains of the contingent, not to flee, but to attack at the heart of the problem, Athens. However we were too exhausted from four battles, and by the time we had sailed round to Athens it was occupied again by the victorious Athenians. My lord I offer my nose and ears for mutilation at this failing, I do not deserve life lord, please give me…"

"Stop whining Datis it doesn't suit your rank, this is an annoyance. Perhaps you should have been trusted with real soldiers, or maybe then we would be mourning the loss of more Persians! … hmmmm …. There would be no justice in killing you, yet again it seems you have fought as you should have but Ahuramazda has denied you victory. Well, for capturing Naxos and punishing the other Greeks your life shall be spared. But for the defeat at…

"Marathon sire" (The Babylonian smirked)

"Yes Marathon by the…"

"Athenians my lord" (Positively amused at Datis's impending doom)

"Right, for losing the battle and our valued soldiers, you will be sent to the northern frontier to keep the Scythians back. There you shall stay until you redeem your actions. Unfortunately our conquest of the east will now have to be postponed, the Greeks must be fully punished for this insult."

"I will not fail you my lord, I vow to return to court in splendour with the head of Idomantheus"

--------- The Sakae Raiders ----------------------------------------------------

Untill the beta is released i guess i will be posting many images of the battles you can play

You may remember i wrote a couple of stories involving the unlucky but brave Median general Datis. Well after his failure at marathon he was sent to defend the northern border against the scythian incursions. At least i think thats what i said happened... (all fiction here by the way) Nehoo now Rise of Persia has practically finished the Persian and Sakae skins i can do the scythian part of datis's story. This time in diary format.

All skins taken from Rise of Persia - Beta release coming A.S.A.P pending ctd investigation.

On the 3rd day of the month of Arshat i was sent to this godforsaken wasteland. An unjust punishment in itself, one battle we lost! if you could even call it that... Thus the wise and all powerful Great king Darius has sent me here to redeem myself. Maybe he forgets what happened when he wandered around this barren land with a hungry army and no one to fight! I have no idea why his majesty insists on holding onto this rock - no doubt a staging point for revenge or some other scheme. He is too old to campaign and yet he still plans invasions... and yet no Persian can fully resent the Great King Darius - he saved all our conquests, he conquered further, he embodies Persian greatness. I will gain his favour again!

The 5th day of the month of Arshat saw the same bleak landscape chase away the light of ahuramazda. The night was chilled and i barely had time to enjoy any sleep in my Lydian bed, brought with us at great cost to my purse and my servants backs. I was rudely awoken and in a breach of all protocal shouted at until i got up. After calming the young messenger boy down i was told that the scouts had reported a large host of Sakae cavalry on its way to raid the border provinces.

<a href="http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/3149/scout8ey.jpg" target="_blank">http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/3149/scout8ey.jpg</a>

With a hurried breakfast I was escorted to the "command Post" of the garrison, Id rather like to think of it as a shack rather than a center of authority... All around youths of the area were running this way and that in stuttering confusion and fear. I seemed to be the only sane man in the room! After taking a look at the maps it was quite clear where to make a stand and with the troops i had brought from Persia I saw no reason to be alarmed by the onset of a cavalry force. Of course i was judging the enemy by the barbarian fools around me, being of the same stock i assumed they were all as dithering as each other. I assembeld all provisions needed and ordered my troops to take up a position between the caucasus mountains and the black sea. The march was easy and almost pleasant as the light of the sun glinted off the waves hitting the shore. With our positions set i took my sleep in a tent pitched among the Arstibara encampment.

at the very beggining of the 6th day of Arshat I was refused a good nights sleep again! The Sakae had forced marched right up to our position during the night and we would have to hastily prepare for the coming assault. Fortunatly the Sakae paused to rest their men and i drew up the Persians in standard battle formation for facing cavalry centered armies.

<a href="http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9055/lines6ce.jpg" target="_blank">http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9055/lines6ce.jpg</a>

The sakae wer advancing in a veritable horde being masked by the dust they kicked up

<a href="http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/959/rush2np.jpg" target="_blank">http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/959/rush2np.jpg</a>

After seeing this pitiful formation i was even more convinced of our victory. But then the dust began to split apart and ordered cavalry forces began to emerge flanking our position.

<a href="http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/8538/flanker0oj.jpg" target="_blank">http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/8538/flanker0oj.jpg</a>

With one eye the flanking horse archers i ordered the archers to create a storm of arrows for the sakae.

<a href="http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/1038/volley21ee.jpg" target="_blank">http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/1038/volley21ee.jpg</a>

What they had of infantry was quickly decimated by our accuracy and rate of fire.

<a href="http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/2473/headshot3qw.jpg" target="_blank">http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/2473/headshot3qw.jpg</a>

Then my joy turned to suprise and an adrnaline fueled panic. From the ghastly dust cloud charged forth a gleaming mass of lances and armour.

<a href="http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/5136/dustycharge7or.jpg" target="_blank">http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/5136/dustycharge7or.jpg</a>

Our arrows had little effect and there was little to do but brace for the attack. however my panic deepened when i realise the lancers were heading for my weaker right flank where the less experienced troops had been placed. The tension mounted as the Sakae thundered ever closer...

<a href="http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/1531/brace7mn.jpg" target="_blank">http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/1531/brace7mn.jpg</a>

<a href="http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/2532/thunder9ct.jpg" target="_blank">http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/2532/thunder9ct.jpg</a>

Then they struck like lightning and our right wing was shattered and transformed into a chaotic struggle to stay alive.

<a href="http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1156/chaos4sb.jpg" target="_blank">http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1156/chaos4sb.jpg</a>

<a href="http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/4426/down7fc.jpg" target="_blank">http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/4426/down7fc.jpg</a>

just as I was worrying about the right flank the Sakae had moved like lightning and struck at our left.

<a href="http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/8256/newattack7hv.jpg" target="_blank">http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/8256/newattack7hv.jpg</a>

And almost as before they tore through the Sparabara and pushed through our first line. However the Sparabara were hardier troops and were able to keep their composure under the brutal assault.

<a href="http://img492.imageshack.us/img492/9130/jump3ws.jpg" target="_blank">http://img492.imageshack.us/img492/9130/jump3ws.jpg</a>

This gave me enough time to order the Takabara and Anusyia stationed on the right flank to engage the Sakae horsmen and relieve their bretheren.

<a href="http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/3109/takabara9gt.jpg" target="_blank">http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/3109/takabara9gt.jpg</a>

Young Orontes of the anusyia was the first to rush at the Sakae with vengence burning in his eyes

<a href="http://img487.imageshack.us/img487/6076/hero7kk.jpg" target="_blank">http://img487.imageshack.us/img487/6076/hero7kk.jpg</a>

Whilst on the left flank the carnage was softened by the overconfidence of the Sakae knights. They had foolishly charged through the sparabara and right into my personal unit of Arstibara! They paid for their insolence dearly

<a href="http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/6065/foolish6lv.jpg" target="_blank">http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/6065/foolish6lv.jpg</a>

Soon with the help of the Anusyia the Knights assaulting us on the right flank were routed and chased down

<a href="http://img470.imageshack.us/img470/6462/chase4hp.jpg" target="_blank">http://img470.imageshack.us/img470/6462/chase4hp.jpg</a>

And on the left the Arstibara had seen off the Lancers attacking them. But as soon as those horsemen were routed a new wave surged forwrard into the Sparabara and Arstibara on the left flank. The ornament and skill of these warriors made it clear to me that the commander himself was making a desperate last push

<a href="http://img333.imageshack.us/img333/2760/final6mk.jpg" target="_blank">http://img333.imageshack.us/img333/2760/final6mk.jpg</a>

The havoc created by this immense charge was devastating, yet we held our ground tenaciously

<a href="http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/2861/damage3dx.jpg" target="_blank">http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/2861/damage3dx.jpg</a>

The merits of holding fast became apparent quickly as i noticed the chief had chaged without support and he was quickly surrounded.

But again the smile was wiped from my face when the flanking horse archers which had my attention earlier on came in behind my Arstibara in a desperate attempt to save their chief

But my Anusyia Asabari were thankfully on hand to deal with this threat and quickly dispatched the lighter Sakae horse archers

With the Sakae chief surrounded and alone there was little hope for him, i saw his death myself when a palta struck him full in the chest. After the loss of their cavalry the Sakae archers who had been harrasing us finally fled the battle.

With the day won i retired to my tent to finally get some sleep. Only to realise it was only three hours until my duties called me as governor of my pitiful town. With a sour expression on my face i tried my best to avoid the cheers of the citizens who barred my way with garlands and wine. reflecting on it now i had always wanted to revel in the glory of victory and yet this time all i wanted to revel in was my bed. At least Darius will hear word of this, the messenger left right after the battle - I made sure of that. The sooner im home the better

First of all i chose this story instead of the others because I don't have access to the Rise of Persia Greek units just yet and i would need them for pretty much every other option. Also italics in the story indicate mardonius's thoughts. All skins are taken from Rise of Persia which is now in the process of making a whole new map because our CTD problem could not be solved. I would also like to add that we do not have a completed thracian faction yet so i used skins from the macedonian list. So wait a little longer and you will be able to play it! So without further ado Mardonius is marching through Thrace -

"The moon is glaring at me! I can see it shadowing over our patrol with a foreboding stare... we will not have a quiet night Mardonius"

"You should lay off the haoma for a while Spitama, those hallucinations can get out of hand. Not to mention what you're doing for company morale. Keep your tongue in you're head or you can go and find the scout party. Probaby made camp in another barbarian village. I swear if i catch one more man in bed with the natives..."

"muttering does not befit the nobility sire"

"Insolence does not befit those under MY command Spitama, go and find out what the land looks like up ahead. I don't like the looks of those mountains."

"Yes sir"

The gloomy night stole the clarity from Spitama's words as he galloped off into the darkness

"Spitama was always playing the fool... but his predictions are often far too close to the truth . I think he lets on far less than he knows. Either way I have to get my personal troops back across these mountains before dawn or the main army will be left leaderless in hostile territory. Thats the sort of mistake i don't want Darius finding out about - i'd like to retain my post at least long enough to see Athens burn."

"My lord! the company is ready to march and awaiting you're order!"

"About damn time! COMPANY, MOVE OUT!"

<a href="http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/8347/march6gz.jpg" target="_blank">http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/8347/march6gz.jpg</a>

"I see the mountain pass up ahead men, this is the only way we will make it back it time to reach camp. I won't lie to you it does'nt look fully safe."

<a href="http://img306.imageshack.us/img306/6153/dangerous8js.jpg" target="_blank">http://img306.imageshack.us/img306/6153/dangerous8js.jpg</a>

"But if we stay focused and steel our hearts like our brave forefathers in the great conquests, we can trample any foe beneath us! Stay together and do not get seperated! Be wary at all times and remember first and foremost You are Persians brothers! And Persians hold the line!"

"Even after encouraging the men i think we're all feeling the strain of this march. Every hill seems like its masking an enemy. Every clump of bushes with an alien presence lurking amongst them inviting us further into the pass before the final judgement."

<a href="http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/6472/lurking2ht.jpg" target="_blank">http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/6472/lurking2ht.jpg</a>

"Almost through now... I can almost see the way out of these godforsaken foothills."

<a href="http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/9755/spotted1sz.jpg" target="_blank">http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/9755/spotted1sz.jpg</a>

"They're Charging our infantry sir! Swarming down the hill like ants!"

<a href="http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/7906/heretheycome0nc.jpg" target="_blank">http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/7906/heretheycome0nc.jpg</a>

"Blast it! we've come too far ahead of the main infantry! Sound the battle horns! Raise the War Standard! Squad i want covering fire on the Thracians until our infantry can reform, pin them and then we can circle to their rear! AIM, FIRE!"

<a href="http://img422.imageshack.us/img422/9888/volley14zp.jpg" target="_blank">http://img422.imageshack.us/img422/9888/volley14zp.jpg</a>

"ha HA! Excellent work men keep it up, don't let those Barbarians forget the Persians are the greatest archers in the world!"

<a href="http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/1123/accuracy9tu.jpg" target="_blank">http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/1123/accuracy9tu.jpg</a>

"Okay lets circle around and hope the Infantry can hold. Look at that Masistus! You see how quickly Hystapes has organised His Dathabam! That my man is a fine Satapatis in action."

<a href="http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/3166/quickaction5oi.jpg" target="_blank">http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/3166/quickaction5oi.jpg</a>

"I'l take my men around the enemy flanks to charge their weak points, soon they'l rout no matter how fearsome they appear. Though the ferocity of the Thracian charge is something I have never Quite seen before. Truly Darius will be pleased if i can recruit some of these fine warriors for his armies."

<a href="http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/8940/tense8ct.jpg" target="_blank">http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/8940/tense8ct.jpg</a>

"The position is being flanked on the left! I must circle around and relieve the pressure on my men. How horrifying it is to see my ordered ranks of brave souls churned up by such a charge! That brutal Melee must be ended!"

<a href="http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/2504/casualties4pe.jpg" target="_blank">http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/2504/casualties4pe.jpg</a>

"Send word to the Arstibara! Get them into combat as quickly as they can! Seperate the Anusyia to deal with the flanking Thracians"

"So easy to work with my own troops so quick at excecuting orders and never flinching in fright"

<a href="http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/2639/seperate9xr.jpg" target="_blank">http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/2639/seperate9xr.jpg</a>

"Must.. Fight... Harder!...push through and onto their peltasts...good the Arstibara have made it into combat

"Men this enemy is defeated! Race to the top of the hill and lure away their assault troops. FOLLOW ME!"

<a href="http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/5001/relief1wl.jpg" target="_blank">http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/5001/relief1wl.jpg</a>

"This fight is taking its toll on our cavalry, we must pull out and hit them with archer fire..."

"Men pull back we have done enough damage - we will finish this with arrows whilst their formation is in tatters"

<a href="http://img434.imageshack.us/img434/4836/dispatched0pq.jpg" target="_blank">http://img434.imageshack.us/img434/4836/dispatched0pq.jpg</a>

"Superb soldiering on all accounts men! We have dispatched the ferocious Thracians even under the duress of an ambush. Soon the rest will be cut down in a haill of arrows and we can go home to our women!"

"My lord! LOOK!"

<a href="http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/5571/trouble5dz.jpg" target="_blank">http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/5571/trouble5dz.jpg</a>

"May Ahuramazda protect us, theres even more of them than the first force we fought!"

"Do not fear them men! Fear is their weapon and we can break them if we hold fast. Order the infantry into lines on the hilltop. If they can hold long enough we should be able to reach them. I will not lie to you my soldiers, the coming battle will be hard fought. Many could die, but let us all bow our heads to Ahuramazda and pray he protects our families if we fall."

<a href="http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/320/pray5vr.jpg" target="_blank">http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/320/pray5vr.jpg</a>

"Now men, fear not the fools in skirts! How can any of us flinch from the joy of charging you're enemy. Ride now and Bathe in the beauty of our passing! To Honour and Glory my brothers! Ride! Ride into destiny!"

<a href="http://img420.imageshack.us/img420/2292/rescue6ex.jpg" target="_blank">http://img420.imageshack.us/img420/2292/rescue6ex.jpg</a>

"The infantry should be formed up by now, Yes i can see them waiting. Yes Here comes the volley - this will be a very great victory or the greatest of defeats"

"We must ride harder! Our infantry's volleys will only keep them at bay for so long... The clash of arms is coming. Watch them fight and be inspired to reach them ever quicker!"

"Thats it! Chase the cowards into oblivion! Ride, ride , ri-aaarrghh"

"Mardonius! The commander has been hit!"

"Press on and chase the routers! help me carry Mardonius out of the fray. The battle is ours but now we must battle for Mardonius's life"

*many hours later in a comfortable bed*

"Haa! Where is this, where are the Thracians! Why are you staring at me we must drive them out!"

"Calm down my lord, drink some of this and relax The battle was won... But... you took a good slash to your leg. You won't be able to walk for a while. But Ahuramazda has blessed us all with you're survival"

"Spitama! how the blazes did you survive the ambush! Why did'nt you report the enemy positions! You traitor! how dare you smirk before me in such a way!"

"My lord you told me to find the scouts - I rode ahead and down the mountain where i excpected to find them encamped and drunk as usual with the local women. But instead I saw a lot of bodies. Bodies but no heads... By the time i had ridden back up the mountain the battle was in its closing stages. After all, who do you think tended your wound?"

"Your a wily old man Spitama, but at least we won and got the men to safety... Wait... my leg, MY LEG! how can i fulfil my role as head of the army if i am a cripple! Cyrse this day Curse all Thracians!"

"Easy up Mardonius, your leg will heal in time without doubt. But you will be temporarily on holiday from you're post whilst you are resting"

"Who will take my place? Please tell me its not that Incompetent old Mede Datis!"

"That has not been decided yet, for now rest and remember your great victory today. For I assure you the Great king will not forget it"

All stories are written by Rez, I'm just posting on his behalve ( Just to avoid confusement ;) )

That Pathian guy is really getting on my nerves.

Persian:We will block out the sun with our swift arrows.
Spartan: Then we are blessed, for we will fight in the shade.

Wow nice story :) I'll make the maximum number of images in a post slightly higher for this forum :P And then maybe wrap everything in img tags. Or not, it'd result in huge load times.
